Arthur Kreitenberg, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. Following medical school at UC San Diego, he began at UC Irvine as a surgical intern in 1982, and completed Chief Residency in 1988. In addition to a Los Angeles private practice, he is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCI, twice receiving outstanding teaching awards. Dr. Kreitenberg holds a bachelor’s in Mathematics (UCLA) and a certificate in Bioengineering (UCI).
Born of the space age, within a year of the Sputnik launch, Dr. Kreitenberg has maintained a keen interest in human spaceflight. He did a summer internship (1979) at Johnson Space Center. He reached the final stage of the U.S. astronaut selection in 1992 and 1994.
The Space Cycle was conceived and patented by Dr. Kreitenberg. The current prototype was built through a NASA SBIR contract proposal submitted by Dr. Kreitenberg. He holds three other U.S. Patents.
Dr. Kreitenberg is also with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security & Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a member of the CA4 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT). Deployments include the Northridge Earthquake (1994), NYC World Trade Center (2001) and Guam Supertyphoon (2002).
Married with two children, Dr. Kreitenberg resides in Orange County. He gained hands-on mechanical know-how as the son of an immigrant plumber.
